Thankful for Veterans

Back in 1968 I had no idea that I would one day look back with thanksgiving for my three years in the US Army. I am thankful for the way that military life caused me to mature. And I am so grateful for those like my son who risked everything to serve our country in Iraq and other war torn places. I give thanks for soldiers who serve and have served on this eleventh day of November - the month of Thanksgiving!

  1. I didn't know your son served in Iraq. That must have been worrisome.

    1. I worried about him the first year he was in Iraq Alice. I somehow had a peace for the the second year long tour that he served. And I finally was able to celebrate when he came home. ツ

  2. I don't have a son in the military, but I have two nephews serving in the Army! One has served in Afghanistan twice and since he is career and special forces, he will be returning. It is very scary to me, but we have to trust the Lord for the shield around him and to bring him home safely. I am glad you had peace - I know it is hard and stressful for my brother and his wife, but they too have peace and we are all proud of them. Give your son a big thank you for his service!

    1. Thanks Connie! I will say another thank you to him!

I think that having peace is, to some degree, letting go of the outcomes of our prayers. I had to come to grips with the idea that he was in the Lord's hands even if things went really bad. No guarantees when we trust God in prayer.
