Let no one lose Heart

“Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?” ... “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.” [1Samuel 17:26,32 NIV]

Some time has passed since Samuel anointed David king. Life has gone back to normal for young David. Back to caring for his Dad's sheep. Back to the daily grind. Back to taking provisions to his brothers as they fight the Philistines. And then Goliath appeared before him and revealed David's heart.

There is something about giants that bring the best or worst out of us. Giants cause us to either lose heart or take heart. And, in this moment of challenge, we see the very best of David as he takes heart. As courage rises from the very depths of his being. It reminds me to feed my faith. And my courage.

In you Lord I find the faith to fight the giants in my life. Arise in me today that I might slay my fears.

... this devotion is part of a series about King David.

  1. Yes, there are always Giants in the land. I used this same thought about Goliath and slaying the giant before we went on our first mission trip to Haiti. I asked our group and myself..what were the giants taunting us before we made our trip...
My current giant was the messy divorce my younger son is in and my feelings for the ex. After some very ugly happenings, Hubby and I were very upset. We were thinking very ungodly thoughts. Went to bed and finally gave it to God (grudgingly) and finally slept. In the morning I read the current devotion from "Jesus Calling" It said "Entrust your loved ones to Me; release them into My protective care. They are much safer with Me than in your clinging hands." there's a lot in between and then the last sentence is " Watch to see what I will do". Later that day our son told us that the ex had a change of heart and agreed to do something she had been unwilling to do before.
My giant got slayed that morning . PTL.
Prayer request...That the Spirit's prompting will cause her to follow through on her promise on Monday AM, Aug. 29.
    Thanks for letting me share.

  2. Simply beautiful Sue. Reminds me that we are only trusting God when we are not in control. Releasing control is the most difficult, yet most necessary, part of life.
