Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
When some read this passage they think that it means that we should always end our prayers with the phrase "In Jesus Name". I think that is not at all what this verse is saying. To really understand what it means we need only hear Jesus telling his disciples that he only does what he sees the Father doing. The will of God is wrapped up in the phrase "In Jesus Name" and his name cannot be severed from God's plan when we pray.
So I think that it is on us, to a degree, to understand the revealed will of God for us when we pray. If we ignore this we will find ourselves frustrated and disillusioned. Consider the person who continually prays for healing "In Jesus Name" because they believe that it is always God's will to heal. Such a one will be confused if healing does not come. Better to first discern God's will, with the help of the Holy Spirit, then confidently pray "In Jesus Name".
Please open the eyes of my heart to understand your will for my life Lord.
