I think that my life took a turn for the dark side when I went from simple faith to complicated religion.Don't you just love simple and uncomplicated things? Faith does seem to be something as simple as forsaking and trusting. As I reflect on the simplicity of faith I think about what Paul said in the eleventh chapter of 2Corinthians:
But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.Isn't it interesting how Paul speaks of being deceived by the enemy when we are drawn away from simplicity? In my life I have found faith to be something that brings clarity and simplicity to life. On the other hand religious activities have just complicated my life and sometimes have trumped faith.
Possibly.. with a new year coming.. we can examine ways to embrace the simplicity of faith in, and devotion to, Jesus. What are the religious things that you have found to once complicate your life?
Being "led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ" certainly goes a long way towards explaining denominations.
ReplyDeleteI like this. I read some things on church blogs and elsewhere and something tells me that this is being over thought. Yes, there's a place for deep thinking and teaching, but the faith that Jesus brought us was a simple one that simple people could understand.
