Evil Thoughts

A few off the cuff thoughts about evil that I shared today over at the Preacherman blog:
  1. God is not the source of evil.

  2. Evil comes from within creation not apart from it.. it is a product of pride.. choices made from a pride motive are evil.

  3. Love has no meaning apart from evil.

  4. Love costs "us" while evil costs "them".

  5. Evil is the natural progression of pride while love is the natural progression of humility.

  6. People suffer because of evil.. before and after death.. but remember God is not the source of evil, torment or suffering.. these all come from within creation.
What comes to mind when you think about evil? Do you ever equate evil with pride? From my limited understanding of the scriptures all of creation was good until Satan said in his heart:
I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne above the stars of God.
In a similar manner Adam and Eve succumbed to pride when they gave in to Satan's temptation in the garden. Evil always seem to be lurking when we say "I will".. remember "I" is the third letter in evil and pride.

    Hey KB, I get "love costs us" but I'm fuzzy about "evil costs them" - could you elaborate that?

    I guess what I was thinking Andy is that prideful self-centered (i.e. evil) actions usually cost other people.. costs them happiness, freedoms, rights.. does that make sense?

    Yes, satan's 5 "I will's"!!!!

    Evil always creates more evil. Those who practive evil do end up paying in the end, both in this life and in the life to come.

    I'd never thought of evil & pride have the 3rd letter being an "i". Good observation.
