For the past few years I have been using bible software from Olive Tree. I have used it on a Palm device and since March of 2007 on my Motorola Q (pictured right). I love this software and find it easy to use and very reasonable - many of their bibles, Christian literature and tools are free.
They are currently looking for some of you iPhone folks to help them check out their new software.
So, here are a few reasons to give Olive Tree a try:
- free and easy to install and use.. I love how intuitive it is.
- customizable for us geeks.. don't get me started on colors :)
- great search capabilities.. use this all the time.
- easy to look up passages.. by transalation, book and verse.
- always carry the word with you.. great for waiting rooms.
- study with commentaries.. helpful for the studious.
- read books on your phone.. lots of free ones.
- available on all mobile platforms.. even iPhone.
- they have a blog - check them out!
That sounds way to techie for me. I do have a Franklin Bible that is the Holy Bible - I have KJV in a little case that is 3x4" that Mickey got me for Christmas several years ago that I love. But I still prefer to carry my KJV bible that he gave me on our first anniversary (almost 49 years ago) to church. It is my most prized possession and the one thing I would grab if I could only have one earthly possession. The pages are getting paper thin but I love it.

I wish I had an iPhone to test it out, but I do love the Blackberry version they have. It makes me so happy to get my daily Bible reading in while I commute back and forth on the subway, and I don't have to add the weight of the "real thing" to my back to do it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this great post with us.
ReplyDeleteI am going to check it out and see how I like it.
Thanks.
I hope you have a great week Kansas Bob!
I still can't get used to all these differnt forms of reading the bible. They are all good, I just guess I am used to lugging that big book around.
ReplyDeleteI'm a e-Sword for Windows Mobile user myself and really like it. They've got bunches of free translations, including my current fav the ESV, and lots of free commentary and other resources. They've also got a desktop version that's free too. The Mobile version is a bit slow to launch, but it's handy.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll give OliveTree a try (no iPhone here though :-D.)
I love e-sword salguod.. have been using it about 3 years now on my laptop.. too bad it doesn't work on my Motorola Q :(
ReplyDeleteThe ESV is my new favorite version as well.. might buy it (about $15) at OliveTree.
Happy Sunday!
